2.Conflict: Logic vs desire / rational vs obsession / man vs man
Througout the story, we learn abot the internal conflict of the teller. He confesses that the old man who he wants to kill has done nothing bad to him. On the other hand, he cannot stand with the old man's weir-looking vulture eye unreasonably. The eye disturbes him so much that he decides to kill the old man in order to make the eye closed forever.
3. Ending: It is closed ending and it can also be a surprising ending to some readers.
4. Characterisation: Both the protagonist annd the antagonist are the same person: The mad man. The mad man is dynamic and round. He goes through changes. We learn about his psyhology and character. He is psychotic and obsessed. With deeper examination, we understand that the mad man establishes a hierarchy between himself and the readers claiming that he is cleverer.
5. Point of view: First person narration, major participant. The teller sometimes adresses to the readers while questioning.
6.Mood: Tense, gloomy, scary
Throughout the story, we read about the mad man's obsession about the vulture eye. He plans killing the old man and after it, he decides to deceive the policemen.
7.Language: Language of the story is easy to understand. There are metaphors, foreshadowing and aftershadowing elements. The eye is used as a metaphor for obsession. The ticking sound that the mad man hears becomes an aftershadowing element as we learn that it was not the old man's heart but his own heart's.
8.Themes: Internal conflict, madness, murder, obsession, death and superiority.
9.Setting: The story takes place in a house and in the mind of the mad man. There is no specific time reference but it is mostly about midnigt.
